Research Grants

Though the Greater Good Science Center is not primarily a grant-making organization, we do sometimes provide research grants.

Most regularly these take the form of fellowships to UC Berkeley graduate and undergraduate students. These annual research fellowships support the work of budding scholars whose work relates to our mission, seeding the next generation of research on topics such as compassion, gratitude, and awe.

Occasionally, we will also offer research grants through major initiatives with a specific scientific focus. As part of our Expanding the Science and Practice of Gratitude initiative, for instance, we have provided more than $3.5 million in funding to researchers across the country—including university faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students—who proposed innovative ways to deepen the scientific understanding of gratitude.

We do not have any research funding opportunities open at this time.

“We scientists need partnerships with organizations like the GGSC because we’re not experts in reaching loads of people on a regular basis. Providing sustained delivery of content that’s thoughtful, not over-the-top, appropriately measured, and empirically grounded—that’s what the GGSC does better than anybody.”
