The Science of a Meaningful Life: Using Positive Psychology to Build Positive Emotions

This one-day seminar will offer attendees a path toward a happier, healthier life.

  • Venue: Berkeley, CA
  • Date: April 9, 2010

This one-day seminar will offer attendees a path toward a happier, healthier life. Drawing on cutting-edge research from the field of positive psychology, renowned UC Berkeley professor Dacher Keltner will share research-tested methods for cultivating and sustaining positive emotions such as amusement, love, and happiness, and he’ll explore the myriad long-term benefits of positive emotions, from better health to a more optimistic outlook on life. What’s more, Dr. Keltner will discuss how attendees can help nurture these emotions in children, spouses, co-workers, clients, and others. He’ll also promote a deeper understanding of people who experience too much or too little positive emotion, such as those suffering from mania, schizophrenia, depression, or autism.

This seminar will also feature a presentation by Barbara Fredrickson, a leader in the field of positive psychology. Dr. Fredrickson will share lessons learned from her trailblazing research on “positivity,” which has discovered that when people experience positive emotions in a 3-to-1 ratio with negative ones, they reach an emotional tipping point: They naturally become more resilient to adversity and effortlessly achieve what they once could only imagine. Her studies show that building positive emotions can enhance relationships, improve health, relieve depression, and broaden the mind. Dr. Fredrickson’s presentation will give attendees the research-tested tools they need to see new possibilities in life, bounce back from setbacks, connect with others, and truly flourish in life.
