The science on meditation is in. Benefits include reduced blood pressure, a stronger immune system, and reduced stress. And the latest research now shows us that meditation actually changes the structure of the brain and the expression of our genes—for the better.

Join Richard Davidson, one of the leading neuroscientists in the new field of contemplative science at the Center for Healthy Minds at UW-Madison, and Lama Tsomo for a unique exploration into the human brain and capacity of heart. Listen in on these two friends as they explore how meditation enhances the capacity for compassion for oneself and others, and how these practices actually work so we can experience greater meaning, connection, and happiness in life. The dialogue will close with a Tibetan compassion meditation session led by Lama Tsomo.

Nowadays, people can choose from various of types of meditation practices. Lama Tsomo teaches meditation in a playful yet deeply meaningful way and shares age-old, time-tested practices in her signature friendly style. With the release of her new book, Why Is the Dalai Lama Always Smiling?, she offers accessible ways for beginners to get started with meditation in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

The conversation between Dr. Davidson and Lama Tsomo will last for approximately one hour, followed by audience Q&A and book signing.

Co-produced by the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley, the Center for Healthy Minds at UW-Madison, and the Namchak Foundation.
