- Time: 8:30 am-5 pm
Drs. John and Julie Gottman convene with the world’s most renowned researchers and leaders in the fields of emotion and the treatment of severely distressed clients.
We know that psychotherapy is most effective when partnered with science. The study of emotion has proven itself essential for effective clinical work and for understanding our clients.
In this dynamic conference, Drs. Paul Ekman and Robert Levenson, pioneers in understanding and perceiving emotion, will provide new insight to help you see and understand your clients as you never have before. Dr. John Gottman, a foremost relationship researcher, will shed scientific light on the myths and truths of functional and dysfunctional patterns of emotional interactions and how you can integrate these insights into deepening your intuition and effectiveness in your clinical work. Sharpen your clinical awareness through discussion of actual cases and viewing video of facial and emotional interactions to learn the secrets they reveal.
Then, learn groundbreaking interventions to treat your most difficult clients. Dr. Marsha Linehan, renowned developer of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), presents her research-based treatment for suicidal and severely disordered clients. Her work includes the treatment of borderline personality disorder and other severe and complex mental disorders, particularly those that involve serious emotion dysregulation. Dr. Richard Tedeschi is known for his radical new approach to the treatment of PTSD entitled, “Posttraumatic Growth.” Dr. Tedeschi will share his research and provide a framework and examples for therapeutic intervention that facilitates posttraumatic growth for individuals and couples. Dr. Julie Gottman, a dynamic educator and developer of Gottman Method Couples Therapy, will show how to skillfully interweave DBT and trauma interventions into couples therapy.
