The Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley (GGSC) serves as a bridge between scientists and the public, turning research findings into practical resources for social and emotional well-being. Its Education Program equips educators with research-based insights and tools that foster well-being in themselves and the students they serve.

This position will serve as the Education Content Specialist for the GGSC. Working with the GGSC’s Education Director, the Education Content Specialist will help produce new multimedia content for the Education Program and for the GGSC’s online magazine, Greater Good. The Education Content Specialist will write about key findings from the fields of social-emotional learning (SEL), mindfulness education, pro-social education, and related disciplines, making sure that the GGSC stays on top of the latest research that has important implications for educators. The position will also produce and maintain an online “toolkit” for educators summarizing the most effective techniques for building social-emotional well-being in a school environment, and will assist in the design and delivery of portions of the GGSC’s Summer Institute for Educators and online course for educators. 

This is a full-time (100% time) position.


  • Plans, develops, and produces a range of multimedia resources for educators on topics related to social and emotional well-being (e.g., compassion, empathy, gratitude, mindfulness), including articles for the Greater Good online magazine and a new “toolkit” for educators highlighting effective strategies for building social-emotional well-being in a school environment.
  • Tracks new findings in the science of social-emotional well-being, particularly from the fields of social-emotional learning (SEL), pro-social behavior, and related disciplines.
  • Helps develop and deliver talks and workshops for the GGSC’s Education Program, which may include portions of the GGSC’s Summer Institute for Educators and its online course for education professionals.
  • Partnerships: Evaluates prospective program partnerships and works with select partners who want to ground their educational work in the science of social-emotional well-being.
  • Identifies and develops evaluation tools for various products within the Education Program.
  • Actively participates in long-range strategic planning for the GGSC and its Education Program.
  • Assists with the general day-to-day operations of the Education Program, including but not limited to staff meetings, fundraising, and administrative tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent writing skills, particularly for making scientific research understandable to non-academic audiences.
  • Thorough knowledge of the education field, especially the landscape of social-emotional learning (SEL) and pro-social education, including research, best practices, and leading programs.
  • Familiarity with scientific research and ability to understand scientific studies.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Experience and skill in developing and delivering in-person educational programs.
  • Thorough analytical and evaluative skills to identify and track important metrics of success, and to develop recommendations for improvement based on those metrics.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with online education.
  • Basic familiarity with posting content to websites.
  • Familiarity with—and affinity for—the Greater Good Science Center’s mission and programs.
  • Masters degree or Ph.D.
  • Experience working as a teacher, school administrator, or school counselor at the K-12 level.

Salary & Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience, within range of $43,300 - $88,900.
