Q: Who is eligible to apply?
A: Established media professionals working across Colorado are encouraged to apply. This includes journalists, reporters, editors, and independent content producers working in formats such as print, audio, video, digital, or social media. Applicants should have a clear interest in reporting on bridging, belonging, and reducing polarization.
Q: Do I need to be based in Colorado?
A: Yes. This fellowship is focused on Colorado-based media professionals reporting within Colorado communities.
Q: Do I need a confirmed publication or distribution plan?
A: You should have a clear and realistic plan for how your work will reach an audience.
Q: Can individuals and collaborative teams apply?
A: Yes. For collaborative applications, one person should be designated as the primary applicant and will serve as the main point of contact throughout the fellowship.
Q: How can the grant funding be used?
A: Funding is intended to support reporting and production of your fellowship project. This may include time spent reporting, travel, production costs, and other expenses directly related to creating and sharing your work.
Q: What is expected of fellows?
A: Fellows are expected to:
1. Participate in a cohort experience that includes an in-person kickoff convening from August 6–8, 2026, as well as quarterly virtual gatherings, periodic check-ins, and opportunities to share work and receive feedback.
2. Engage with research and resources related to bridging and belonging and complete a reporting project during the fellowship.
3. Complete learning and evaluation activities, including a pre- and post-survey, regular check-ins to share published content, and a brief final report.
Q: What materials are required to apply?
A: Applicants are asked to submit:
1. Links to two samples of previous work.
2. A project narrative, including the project’s intended format, distribution, target audience, and anticipated reach.
3. A proposed budget and timeline.
Q: How are fellows selected?
A. We will prioritize proposals that are clearly aligned with the goals of the fellowship, take thoughtful or innovative approaches to bridging and belonging, and reach diverse audiences across Colorado’s communities and regions. Local and community-based media outlets are welcome.
Q: What is the expected output or deliverable?
A. Fellows are expected to develop and complete media projects during the fellowship, share updates with the cohort, submit a final report, and present their final work at the end of the program.
Q: When will applicants be notified?
A. All applicants will be notified by June 1.
