Advancing the Science and Practice of Contemplative Education

This symposium will examine the scientific basis of contemplative teaching and learning and promote its practice in education with the goal of improving the lives of children, teachers and families.

Contemplative Teaching and Learning promotes awareness of self, others and the world by combining classroom life and teaching with experiential practices like mindfulness, yoga, tai chi, and reflective journaling, which can deepen learning and build skills such as self-regulation and compassion.

The symposium features keynote speaker Mark Greenberg, who is the Director of the Prevention Research Center at Penn State University and a leading researcher in social and emotional learning. Panelists include Adele Diamond, specialist in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of British Columbia; Susan Kaiser-Greenland, founder of Inner Kids and author of The Mindful Child; and Linda Lantieri, Director of the Inner Resilience Program and founding member of CASEL.
